The Dassault Falcon aircraft form one of the three great families of business jets in the world, and the only one of French origin. Born in 1963 with the Falcon 20, they are distinguished by a direct inheritance from combat aviation: the technologies proven on Dassault\u2019s military aircraft flow into every generation of Falcon. The result is aircraft renowned for their precision of handling, their robustness and their ability to land where other jets in their category will not.<\/p>\n\n

Where does the Falcon family come from?<\/h2>\n

The story begins in the early 1960s, when Dassault Aviation<\/a>, builder of the Mirage fighters, decided to apply its expertise to civil aviation. The first aircraft, the Myst\u00e8re 20, which became the Falcon 20, made its first flight in 1963. It quickly won over the major operators: it was notably the aircraft chosen by the American carrier Pan Am to launch modern business aviation across the Atlantic, and a Falcon 20 was the very first aircraft in the fleet of the express carrier FedEx.<\/p>\n

Since then, the family has never stopped growing: Falcon 50, the first intercontinental trijet, Falcon 900 and 2000, best-sellers of the 1990s and 2000s, then the Falcon 7X, 8X and 6X. More than sixty years after that first flight, the line continues to develop, with thousands of Falcon aircraft in service worldwide.<\/p>\n\n

What does the military inheritance actually change?<\/h2>\n

Dassault is one of the few manufacturers in the world to design both combat aircraft and business jets, in the same design offices. That proximity is not incidental: it is found in the wings of the Falcon, drawn with the same aerodynamic care as those of the fighters, and above all in the digital flight controls.<\/p>\n

The Falcon 7X was the first business jet in the world with fully digital flight controls, a technology taken directly from the Rafale: the on-board computer assists the pilot continuously and protects the aircraft from departing its flight envelope. What was a first in 2007 has become the signature of the family, refined on the 8X and then on the 6X.<\/p>\n

For the passenger, this inheritance translates simply: steadier flights, more precise landings, and an additional margin of safety in difficult conditions.<\/p>\n\n

Why do Falcon aircraft have several engines at the rear?<\/h2>\n

It is the most recognisable silhouette in the family: the Falcon 900, 7X and 8X carry three engines, where most of their competitors carry two. This architecture offers precise operational advantages: additional redundancy on long ocean crossings, and take-off and landing performance that opens up demanding airfields.<\/p>\n

It is thanks to this design, combined with their wings, that the large Falcon aircraft reach airports such as London City, in the heart of London with its short runway and steep approach, or Samedan, at the gates of St Moritz high in the mountains. What are today\u2019s Falcon aircraft worth?<\/h2>\n

The current range covers the whole spectrum of long-range business aviation. The Falcon 7X<\/strong>, in service since 2007 and built in close to three hundred examples, redefined its category: three engines, digital flight controls and a versatility that makes it one of the most sought-after jets on the pre-owned market.<\/p>\n

The Falcon 8X<\/strong>, its continuation, lengthens and refines it: around 11,900 kilometres of range, enough to link Geneva with Tokyo or New York non-stop, and a cabin that Dassault presents as the quietest in business aviation. The Falcon 6X<\/strong>, certified in 2023, is the latest member of the family: it introduces the widest cabin in its category and completely redesigned avionics. It illustrates the constancy of the house: each new Falcon inherits the gains of the previous one and goes beyond them.<\/p>\n\n

Why did Dasnair choose Falcon, and Falcon alone?<\/h2>\n

Since 2001, our house has flown only Falcon aircraft. It is not an aesthetic preference, it is a choice of safety and competence. A crew that flies only one aircraft family knows it by reflex; a technician who maintains only one line reads its faintest signs; an operations team that always plans the same machines knows their real performance, not only the brochure figures.<\/p>\n

That specialisation led us from on-demand flights to the management of aircraft<\/a> on behalf of their owners: Falcon 7X, 8X and 6X today, with continuing airworthiness handled by our own teams. Twenty-five years alongside a single aircraft family creates a form of knowledge that cannot be improvised, and that is passed on.<\/p>\n\n

\n How many Falcon models are there?<\/summary>\n

About ten models have followed one another since the Falcon 20 of 1963, from the light twinjet to the intercontinental trijet. The range marketed today is built around the Falcon 2000, 6X and 8X, while the 900 and 7X remain very present in service and on the pre-owned market.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/details>\n

\n Is a Falcon a French aircraft?<\/summary>\n

Yes. Falcon aircraft are designed by Dassault Aviation and assembled in France, at M\u00e9rignac near Bordeaux, before their final outfitting. The Falcon family is the only major European line of business jets facing the American and Canadian manufacturers.<\/p><\/div>\n <\/details>\n
